La Mar is a project of Terras Gauda which started with the main goal of recovering the regional, almost extinct Caíño Blanco grape and bring it back to life. A personal project of José María Fonseca, the founder president and lighthouse of Terras Gauda. A unique grape with unmatched characteristics to truthfully reflect its terroir, it has a thick skin that absorbs all of its surrounding aromas. However, it is also the less productive of all Galician white grape varieties and a very delicate grape, which requires intensive care, this made it less attractive to the winemakers in the past.

The decisive and essential virtue of Caíño blanco grape, what makes it unique, is its facility to extract the full characteristics of the terroir where it is located. It is macerated in cold for a longer period of time, to make use of its high percentage of skin, and extract all of its subtle aromas.

After the alcoholic fermentation, the wine rests in its lees for 2 months. Following this period, it rests at low temperature for at least another 6 months, before bringing it to the bottle where it rests for yet another one year.

The first impression of this wine is the manifestation of terroir characteristics such as schist, the proximity to the wild Atlantic ocean with salty notes and iodine. It shows fruitiness too, with notes of peach, melon and pineapple, and creamy notes from its contact with the lees.

In the mouth it is big and silky, juicy and wide, but also showing excellent freshness and tenderness thanks to its excellent acidity. It is excellent to drink now, but has a good aging potential, gaining complexity over the next 5 years.

Visual - Light gold.

Nose - Tropical fruit, dominated by very ripe pineapple and mango. Follows a remarkable minerality, earthy notes and fresh saline overtones. Subtle and honest representation of its terroir.

Taste - Flavorsome, broad, luscious and deep yet subtle and fresh at the same time. Very good minerality. Good fruits with ripe pineapple, peach, and melon. Surprising saline freshness. Very long after taste.
